Former Governor Of Niger State, Granted Bail

The former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, who was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been granted bail by a High Court in Minna, Niger State
capital.

Aliyu, who was arrested alongside his chief of staff, Umaru Nasko, a Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate in 2015, were charged by the EFCC with conspiracy and personal conversion of the sum of  N4.568 billion belonging to the state government.

They both pleaded not guilty.

While ruling on the bail application, the presiding Judge, Aliyu Mayaki, said the defendant, Aliyu, is admitted to bail in the sum of N150 million with two sureties in like sum and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

"The sureties must also deposit Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of landed property worth not less than N200 million, situated within the jurisdiction of the court." he said.

"The second applicant, Umaru Nasko, was also granted bail in the sum of N100 million and two sureties in like sum. The sureties are to equally deposit Cof O of landed property worth not less than N150million."

The case was adjourned untill June 12, 2017 for further hearing.
