South Korea Votes To Replace Impeached President

Presidential elections are on- going in South Korea. The election  was called early to replace president, Park Geun-hye, who was  ousted from office for allegations of  corruption.


South Koreans, are voting on Tuesday, to choose a new President amidst rising issues on economy, corruption and relationship with North Korea, BBC reports.

The democratic party's Moon Jae-in, who ran against Park in 2012, is one of the aspirants.
 He promised giving South Koreans a better economy and is advocating dialogue with North Korea.

The conservative candidate, Hong Joon-pyo, of the Liberty Korea Party, has also promised a better economy just like the other candidates.

However, he disagrees with Moon and has attacked his approach. Hong was quoted on Thursday, as saying that the election was a "war of regime choices"

More than 11 million peoplee are said to have already participated in early voting.
Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn will continue as the acting President until the winner of the election is inaugurated.
