South Korea: Moon Jae-in Has Been Elected South Korea's President

Liberal Human rights lawyer, Moon Jae-in, on Tuesday,  won the presidential election in South Korea. He has has been elected to replace the former president Park Geun- hye, who was  impeached based on allegations of corruption.


Mr Moon is in favour of dialogue with North Korea even as tensions on the North Korea, issue heightens.

Contesting among 13 candidates, in an election that was called earlier, Moon, won decisively. Putting an end to months of political crisis emanating from the corruption scandal levelled against former president, Park.

Mr Moon, while celebrating the victory told supporters that he would be president, for all South Koreans.

"I will be president for all South Koreans," he said.

Ms Park Geun-hye, is being accused of allowing a close friend extort money from companies in South Korea, although she has denied any wrongdoing, she currently in custody awaiting trial.

The new President, Moon Jae-in is expected to be sworn in officially on Wednesday.
