The
hormones (Oestrogen and Testosterone) are responsible for sexual desire in women
and men, but they could be affected by the foods we eat. So, to avoid low
sex drive, do go easy on the following foods:
- Sugar: Most people always crave for a warm cup of tea, especially when it is sweetened. Excessive in take of sugar for men brings down testosterone, the sex driving hormone. Even in women too, an imbalance of testosterone can also reduce sex drive . So go easy with the sugar.
- Bottled Water: Sounds strange right? No, it is not the water but the plastic. Bisphenol A, (BPA) is a chemical present in most plastic containers which are used for bottle water and it has been linked to affect fertility in both men and women.
- Alcohol: Consumption of alcohol can increase sexual desire, very true, but it only ends up decreasing sexual performance both in men and women. Alcohol is a depressant and consuming excessive amount will diminish sexual performance. It can also lead to erectile dysfunction in men.
- Soy: As
much as soy and soy-based foods, like soy milk is good for the body, excessive
intake of it can also alter our sex hormones levels. It could reduce
testosterone in men, reduce libido and sperm count too.
- Cheese: Some of us prefer cheese to butter, but our delicious cheese is one of those foods that can also lower oestrogen and testosterone levels, consequently lower sex drive. But if you can't resist the delicious taste of cheese and prefer it to.... then, of course your decision counts more.
- Fried Foods: Other than the fact that they are bad for the heart, fried foods do not encourage our sex drive either. They decrease libido in both men and women. So, think about it deeply when you are busy eating your fries.
- Cornflakes: This food was originally made to subdue sexual urge by John Harvey Kellogg. Though cornflakes are great breakfast meals, it's advisable to avoid it before going to bed in case you have any sexual activity in mind.
- Micro waved Popcorn: Want to keep your sex life alive? Do yourself a huge favour and keep away from microwaved popcorn.
- Mint: Considering how some of us love to chew gum, the menthol in mints have been found to reduce the level of testosterone and that means lower sex drive.
- Canned Foods: Most canned foods contain large quantity of sodium, mostly used to preserve them. Sodium increase high blood pressure and as a result, reduce blood flow in some parts of the body including the genitals which is one of the major causes of low sex drive.
