CNN reports that South Korea and US officials say North Korea has test- fired another ballistic missile.

The missile however, exploded seconds after take- off, which accounts for a second failed launch within two weeks.

The missile was fired in the early hours of Saturday, from a site in South Pyeongan, northern part of Pyongyang, according to South Korea.

North Korea conducted the failed missile launch just few hours after the United Nations Security Council held a meeting to discuss the country's missile programme.

The US president, Donald Trump who  recently hosted his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping and praised him for trying very hard on North Korea, has accused North Korea of showing disrespect towards China and its President.

"North Korea disrespected the wishes of China & its highly respected President when it launched, though unsuccessfully, a missile today. Bad!" he tweeted.

The US, through the Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, has called for a tougher  international approach to the isolated communist state - but also hinted that the US might be willingly to negotiate with North Korean leader Kim Jong -un.

After the launch on Saturday, the Japanese government has condemned the test.
