"My Action Was For Self Defence" Says Man Who Chained Wife To A Generating Set

The Ogun State police command, has arrested a 37-year old man Ifeanyi Ajaero, for allegedly beating and chaining his wife to a generating set as punishment for wrong doing.

Premium Times reports that, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident which took place at Ewuuluwo area, Sagamu, said  Ajaero, was a member of the disbanded merchant navy.

According to the PRO, the suspect used handcuffs to chain his wife, Obiageli, 28, to a generating set after beating her severely.

The police confirmed that the woman was in a terrible state when she was rescued.

Neighbours, who claimed to have witnessed several incidents of  beating by the suspect called in the police.
The Divisional police officer at Sagamu and his men upon arrival at the scene of the incident, rescued the woman and arrested her husband.

Oyeyemi, said the suspect during interrogation, admitted chaining his wife to a generating said but said his action was for self defence.

The  Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, Ahmed Iliyasu, has condemned the action of the suspect and has ordered the case  to be transferred to Anti- Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
