The BBC reports that, Zuma said many of the protesters who took to the street, held placards that were offensive about black people.
"The marches that took place last week, demonstrated that racism is real and exists in our country," he said.
Many South African took to the street in protest asking Zuma to resign from office after a cabinet reshuffle which led to the sack of a widely respected Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan.
