The exercise started in the early hours of Wednesday, while many of the traders were not yet in the market.
Police men were seen around the market to avert any breakdown of law and order.
Several traders who claim they were not given prior notice by the government, upon arrival, were seen trying to salvage their goods to safety.
The market leader, Mrs Abibat Adelayo Adegbola (Iya Oloja of Ojodu Berger), said " We were not aware that they were going to demolish the market; nobody told us anything. There is an issue, but all attempts to speak with the governor and the government officials were unsuccessful," she said.
