Following the recovering of N13billion on Wednessday, April 12, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in  flat7B, 16, Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, controversy has trailed the ownership of the fund.

According to the EFCC, the money which was recovered as 43million dollars, 27,000 pounds and 23million Naira, was recovered in Ikoyi after a tip off by a whistle blower.

Since the recovery of the money, several prominent Nigerians have been named as owner of the fund.
First it was Ex Bauchi State Governor and former People's Democratic Party, (PDP), Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu'azu , followed by One Mrs Esther Nnamdi- Ogbue, former Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC), Retail Ltd., Chief Tony Anenih including the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

All the persons mentioned in connection to the recovered fund have denied its ownership.

The National Intelligence Agency, just few days ago, claimed the fund belongs to the agency, saying it was meant for "covert operations."

A Federal High court in Lagos has however, ordered the temporary forfeiture of the  funds and has scheduled May 5 as day for the owner to appear before the court.

The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, in describing the development as a 'circus', during an interview with Arise TV, has asked the anti -graft agency to resolve the controversy surrounding the money and name its owner.

Saraki said,"I believe this is something simple that the organisation (EFCC), should manage even before the speculation started coming out. The circus has to come to an end as to whether it belongs to individuals, companies, agencies or a State government.

"We however believe they will sort it out, and eventually tell Nigerians who owns the money. Nigerians deserve to know. The circus must stop."
