Rivers State Claims Ownership Of $43million Recovered From Ikoyi

Channels Newss reports that, The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that the  $43million recovered in Ikoyi, Lagos, belongs to Rivers State.


He has also given the Federal government a 7-day ultimatum to return the money to the state or else the state would take legal actions.

According to the governor, the money was the proceeds from the sale of gas turbines by immediate past  governor of the State, Rotimi Amaechi.

Wike, while addressing journalist today said "The money in question belongs to the former governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. We want to confirm that the houses in Ikoyi also belongs to him.

"If you recollect in 2015, we said that gas turbines built by former governor Peter Odili were sold to Sahara Energy, business partners of Chibuike Amaechi for $319million."

The governor also said part of the money was used to sponsor All Progressive Congress in the 2015 general elections and the money recovered in Ikoyi was part of the fund.

He further challenged the Federal government to set up a panel of inquiry which will sit publicly, to investigate the money, if it questions the claim of Rivers State government.
