Akwa Ibom: Police Resues Abducted Turkish Nationals

The two Turkish expatriates who were abducted in Akwa Ibom State, have been rescued by the Police.

The State  Commissioner of Police, Mr Don Awunah, who confirmed the release of the expatriates,  disclosed the development  to newsmen during a briefing  at the  police headquarters, Ikot Akpan, Uyo, the state capital. He also said, the police have been able to arrest  five suspects in connection to the crime .

The expatriates who work with a construction firm, VKS construction Limited, were abducted by unknown gunmen from their hotel rooms in Eket, Eket local government area, on Sunday, April 9.

According to  CP Awunah, the victims were taken to the creeks of Calabar/Oron waterways by their abductors.

"Following sustained police activities on the waterways, deployment of technical platforms, cultivation of actionable intelligence and skillful professional negotiation, the two Turkish national were released on April 19, 2017.

They have been united with their colleagues, after medical assessment. Five suspects have been arrested and further investigation is ongoing."

On the issue of the proprietor of Sure Polytechnic, who was abducted separately on the same day, while in a church,  Awunah, said the Police is working on his rescue and assured that he would also be rescued like the rest.

"On the kidnap of the Sure Polytechnic proprietor in Ukanafun local government area, we are on it. In any scenario in a case of kidnap for ransom, our primary objective is that we release or rescue the victim first, before going after the criminals," he added.
