Petroleum Tanker Drivers under The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, (NUPENG), has said they will commence on a strike action on
Monday and will ensure that there will be no movement of petroleum tankers.

Speaking to The News Agency Of Nigeria, NAN, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, The South -West Chairman of NUPENG, Lagos Council, said all the tanker drivers are ready for the strike as they have abandoned their tankers to show readiness for the strike action, unless the Federal Government intervenes.

Korodo stated that the reason for the strike action is due to poor remuneration, insecurity, bad roads and welfare of the drivers. He also complained about the activities of NSCDC.

" The activities of officials of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), on the roads is not helping matters,
"The tanker drivers are forced to break the seal of their product on the pretext that they were carrying adulterated products.

"Most of these drivers are harassed by these officers, at times the tanker and the driver will be detained for a month", he said.

He also said that they wanted the government to settle its issues with NNPC which led to more than 2,000 staff of Capital Oil and Gas losing their jobs.
Korode said they wanted the issues solved so that the company can be reopened and the staff and tanker drivers go back to work.
He, however said that the strike action will not hinder activities in filling stations, depots or refineries in the nation.
