April Fools' Day is usually characterised by pranks. On April 1, most people are usually on their guards to avoid
those pranks.

How then did April fools's day start? Why April 1, and not any other date?

There are many versions to the origin of April fools' day and it is a tradition that goes back  hundred years ago.

One of the theories of the origin of April fool is linked to Pope Gregory X111 who adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1582 and changed the beginning of the year from March to January 1.

The change of date was published far and wide but some people didn't get the information and continued to celebrate the new year on April 1.They were ridiculed and regarded as fools, resulting in calling the day Fools'day.

The Julian calendar established in 46BC already had January 1 as the beginning of the year hence, there was confusion as to what date to follow and different dates were adopted as the beginning of the year.
Although, it is not certain what calendar influence the date, but theories have it that April Fools' day was influence by the moving of the date to January.
Whatever the assumption, Happy new month.
