Jehovah's Witnesses, the christian ministry which is best known for its door- to -door approach for getting new convert, may be banned in Russia.
Russia's supreme court commenced hearing, Wednesday, on government request, to ban Jehovah's Witnesses which has about 175,000 members and 395 branches in the country and to declare it an extremist organisation.
The ministry's argument was that Jehovah's Witnesses activities violate Russia's law on combating extremism and that their pamphlets incites hatred against other groups.
Jehovah's Witnesses representative, said the group was not an extremist organisation while the group's lawyers have condemned the action of the Ministry, saying it was unlawful.
