Google Self Driving Firm Sues Uber Over Technology Theft

Waymo, a self driving company set up by Google is taking legal actions against Uber. Google is accusing Uber of stealing its technology (LiDAR) to create Otto,
a self driving vehicle which it bought last year.
According to google in the lawsuit, a former employee, who was a Waymo Manager, Anthony Levandowski  is being accused of downloading 14,000 highly confidential and proprietary design files which he took along with him when he resigned to co - found another venture which became Otto.
"We believe these actions were part of a concerted plan to steal Waymo's trade secret and part of intellectual property." Says Waymo
To gain access to Waymo design server Mr Levandowski searched for and installed specialised software into his company issued -laptop. Once inside, he downloaded 9.7GB of Waymo's highly confidential files and trade secrets including blueprints, design files and testing documents.
Then he connected an external drive to the laptop which he then wiped and reformatted the laptop in  an attempt to erase forensic fingerprints."
Uber said it takes the accusation very seriously and would review it.
