Police Exhumes Body Of A Woman Suspected To Have Been Killed By Husband For Rituals

Police in Lagos yesterday, exhumed the body of a woman who was buried in a shallow grave, suspected to have been killed by her husband.

Sherifat Bello was suspected to have been killed by her husband Shakiru Bello for ritual at Ijora, Lagos. Shakiru is alleged to have committed the heinous crime last Monday in an uncompleted building in the area.
From investigations, Police say this is not Bello's first attempt to kill his wife before their separation. He had earlier attempted to insert Charms into his wife's private part which was the main reason for their separation.
Shakirat had contacted her husband last week, for allowance for the upkeep of their three children, which he agreed to give but had asked her to come to a place in Ebute-meta, from there they both left for Ijora.
At Ijora, he attacked her and she died on the spot. The suspect then proceeded to cut her body into parts which he needed, before burying her in a shallow grave around an  uncompleted building.
Shakiru immediately left for Ibadan, his hometown under the pretence of having travelled and not being in contact with his wife.
The victim's relative raised alarm and contacted the police when they did not see her and  refused to believe Shakiru's tales of having travelled.
The police arrested him and upon interrogation, he confessed to the crime and led the police to the grave where he had buried her.
In the presence of a large crowd yesterday, the police recovered the decomposing head, two hands and legs of Shakirat where she was buried.
The shocked crowd, tried to lynch him but the  police quickly intervened.
At the Area 'B' police Station where Bello was taken to, he said they had been married for 14 years and the act was the work of the devil.
The relative of the victim said her pubic hair and some other parts were missing from the body, which are pointers that she was killed for ritual. The exhumed parts have been buried at the Amukoko cemetery and the case transferred to the Homicide section of the State Criminal And Investigation
department , Yaba, Lagos.
