CAF Presidency: Issa Hayatou ousted as CAF President

Ahmad Ahmad is the new president of Confederation Of African Football. He defeated Issa Hayatou who has been in power since 1988, in an election held in Ethiopia. Ahmad won the election by 34 votes to Hayatou's 20.


The 57- year old, head of Madagascar football Association and gathered a lot of support after he made his intention known and the result of the election seems to be a welcome development among many African FA.

George Afriyie, Vice president of Ghana Football Association said, "His excellency Issa Hayatou has done a lot for African football (but) it is time for him to step back."

"Africa has made an emphatic decision that we are ready for change", said the Liberian FA President.
Ahmad was congratulated and carried by his jubilant supporters.
