South Korea: Impeached President To Be Questioned Over Corruption Scandal

The Impeached  South Korean President, Park Geun- hye is to face prosecutors over allegation of corruption.

 BBC reports that, The Ex - President, could be charged for using her influence to allow her close friend Choi Soon -Sil, who has been charged for bribery and corruption, extort money from firms in South Korea.

On Tuesday, as Ms Park  was being escorted  for questioning to the office of the prosecutor, many of her supporters were seen waving South Korean flag in solidarity.

She had told the media as she arrived," I am sorry to the people. I will faithfully corporate with questioning."
Ms Park is the first democratically elected president to be impeached in South Korea.

Thousands of people celebrated her removal from office on March 10. However, two people were  left dead due to angry protest by her supporters.

A new election is to be held, May 9.

South Korea is now being led by an Acting President, Hwang Kyo -ahn.
