The move, according to the governor was to enhance security of lives and properties of Lagosians, as the safety of residents in the State is at top priority of the administration.
A total of 177 equipped salon cars and vehicles were handed over by the governor to the Corp, 377 motorcycles, 377 helmets and 4,000 bicycles were also handed over. Metal detectors to ensure that weapons are not smuggled into public places and other safety equipment were also made available to the Corp.
Ambode, while speaking, lauded the efforts of the Police in ensuring security of lives and properties in Lagos but said the Neighbourhood Corp was necessitated by the huge security challenged facing the State as a result of population.
"Let me, however, make it abundantly clear that the Neighbourhood Safety Corps is not in any way in competition with the regular Police Force.
"In actual fact, they are expected to assist and complement the Police by providing useful intelligence for crime and prevention and to facilitate the arrest of perpetrators of criminal activities in our communities," he said.
