The Police in India has arrested at least 5 people in connection with the attack on Nigerian students in Greater Noida, a town in the northern part of India.
The Cable reports that, the attack was as a result of the death of a 15-year -old boy who was alleged to have taken some drugs which was given him by some Nigerians.
The family of the deceased had lodged a complain at the police station demanding the arrest of six Nigerians whom they accuse of drugging him on the account of local residents who claim to have seen the deceased with some Nigerian students.
The police had detained five Nigerians and seized their passports but were released for lack of evidence. The aggrieved family were not pleased with the decision of the police and by the evening of Monday, thousands of protesters stormed the office of the senior superintendent of police and the district magistrate to express their displeasure.
Some Nigerians were eventually attacked, beaten up by the angry mob and left bleeding on the road.
Enduranca Amalawa, an Economics student at a local university, told journalists.“I never understood why they started beating me. We went to Pari Chowk to purchase some goods. As soon as we came out, we saw some people shouting at us, saying ‘stop him, stop him,’'
“I don't even know what happened and I couldn't do anything about it. I don't want any action against anyone.
"I am just a student who is studying here. But they didn't know me, why did they attack me?'
