The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC,  has asked the Nigeria Customs Services to review its plans to clamp down on old vehicles, whose owners are yet to pay for Customs duties on or before the April 12, deadline.

In a letter to the Comptroller -General of the Customs, Col. Hammed Ali (Rtd), The  President of NLC , Ayuba Wabba, said the directive given by the Customs was unrealistic and calls for a review.

The Nigeria Custom services had given a deadline of April 12 which was rescheduled from March 13 for all vehicles in Nigeria to meet up with the payment of custom duties or face a proposed action by the custom to clamp down on such vehicles.

The senate asked for a suspension of the plan which is now causing a war of words between the Senate and the Comptroller- General.

The NLC has also condemned, the planned action of the Nigeria Customs Services in the same letter by its President, saying it will result to chaos and unnecessary suffering for the users of vehicles in Nigeria.

According to Wabba, " It is self- serving and will in the end enrich unscrupulous customs personnel who contributed in no small measure to the present situation through act of commission or omission and will amount to rewarding their complicity."
