The Nigerian Senate has ordered the Comptroller- General of Nigeria Custom Services, Col. Hammed Ali to appear before it in appropriate uniform on March 15, over what the senate termed a
dictatorial conduct by the customs boss.

The law makers are angry with the customs boss over his attitude and the way he is running the affairs of the customs.

The Senate had earlier asked Hammed to suspend the plans to impound on vehicles who did not meet up with its requirement on custom duties until clarifications are made on the plan.

The senate, in  a motion raised by Senator Dino Melaye had faulted the plan saying, it would be unfair to ask citizens who bought their cars from dealers who failed to pay the duties to be responsible for the actions of such dealers.

The proposed plan by the customs was then asked to be suspended, until the customs boss appears before the House to explain the reasons for the new rules.

The customs, however defied the directive and said it would go on with its intended plan to collect duties on old vehicles after the deadline of  April 12.

The Senate angered by the action of the Comptroller- General, summoned him to appear before it and called for a drastic action to be taken against him for defying the directive of the Senate.
