The Acting Commissioner For Transportation, Anofiu Elegushi disclosed at the Stakeholders' meeting on the upgrade /utilisation of Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, Bus Terminal in Lagos Island, that the Lagos State government has plans to replace the commercial buses in the state, popularly known as "Danfo" or Yellow buses
with new buses fitted with Close Circuit Television, CCTV. He said there are also plans to convert two petrol stations at Maryland, Ikeja, to bus Terminus.
Elegushi further explained that the plans to replace the yellow buses with the fleet of new ones is evident because most of the existing buses are old and are not roadworthy, having been in use for the past 20years.
Speaking on the newly upgraded TBS terminal, he said the terminal will still accomodate the old users: taxis, yellow buses, tricycle, LAG Buses, Bus Rapid Transit but with well designated lanes ,mini shops, Ticketing points, Intelligence Transport Systems ,ITS, guide for passengers and so on.
He appealed to transport Union to take adequate care of the terminal, to avoid wastage of resources.
He also added that the government had no plans to dislodge the yellow buses and taxis that are on terminals but they would be accredited to ensure orderliness.
The Commissioner, described the completion of the redevelopment of Tafawa Balewa Square Bus Terminal as an iconic piece designed for the celebration of The 50th Anniversary of Lagos State.
