According to the Vice President, the elites have in many years deprived the people the opportunity of reaping the benefits of oil in their communities ,adding that henceforth, the government will deal directly with the communities and not with the elites.
Contractors handling projects in the region were not left out, Osinbajo ordered contractors who had projects to go back to site and that any contractor who collected money for projects and abandons it, will be sent to jail.
The meeting was well attended by the representatives of the oil producing communities and the State government.
In between the meeting, a call from the President, Mohammadu Buhari came through and the Vice President had to step out to receive the call.
The meeting however was disrupted for about 10 minutes, when some youths of Ijaw communities in Edo State, led ex- militant leader Henry Binidodogha alias Egbema 1 stormed the venue.
The youths said they were disappointed that the Vice President could not personally visit the oil communities rather than "calling us to come and sit in this hall discussing what we don't understand."
"We heard you said you can't come because of lack of security so we came to tell you that you should now leave our oil for us and go back, we are tired, our people are suffering and it is not a problem a town hall meeting will solve, " he said.
The deputy governor Shaibu and security operatives had to intervene to put the situation under control .
