Following the failure of the Senate to confirm the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC , Magu, as the Substantive chairman, last week, the Former Special Adviser
To the President On National Assembly Matters, Senator Florence Ita Giwa, has said the President has the power to nominate Magu  four times if need be.

The Senate had refused to confirm Magu due to  the allegation of corruption and abuse of human rights levelled against him by the Department of State Services.

Sen. Ita Giwa, while speaking to Newsmen on Saturday, gave examples of nominees who were screened by the Senate, four times before they were confirmed during the Obasanjo-led administration:
Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, a former chairman of the Niger Delta Commission and Ex Minister of Aviation, Prof Babalola Aborishade according to her were screened four times before being confirmed.

She said President Muhammadu Buhari can still present Magu for the third time before the Senate if need be.

" We have to be careful to know that there is separation of powers. Magu's case is a delicate one. However, if the President believes that he is the man that can help fight corruption, he has the power to keep re- presenting him. He can present him up to four times if he insists that he is the person that can help fight corruption."

Senator Ita Giwa went ahead to proffer solution to the situation at hand. According to her "We have to be careful because the world is watching us.At the moment it is a no win situation for the executive and Legislative arms of government."

According to her, Ita Enang , the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly matters needs to carryout intensive lobbying in order to see Magu through.

"There is need for intensive lobbying now. Lobbying is allowed. Cordiality between the executive and legislative arms  should be strengthened."

However, she concluded by stating that " If the Senate finds Magu's integrity questionable, they should be careful not to make someone a superstar out of sympathy. Magu's situation should be handled with utmost care."
