The crisis in The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, seems to be deepening more and more. The Ahmed Makarfi led faction has submitted an application to The Independent National Electoral Commission , INEC, for the registration
of another party called "Advanced Peoples Democratic Party."
There has been a tussle for the Chairmanship position of the PDP between Senators Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sherrif leading to one court case to the other.
Just recently, The former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff was declared The national PDP chairman by an Appeal court in Port harcourt, where three judges unanimously agreed to declared him the chairman.
The decision, however did not go down well with the Makarfi led faction who threatened going to the Supreme court. The faction had also asked Ali Modu to vacate the national Secretariat of the Party In Abuja.
But in a twist of events, it seems the Makarfi side has no interest in the chairmanship position any more as on Friday, they decided to register another party, Advanced Peoples Democratic Party.
INEC spokesman , Nick Dazang neither confirmed nor refuted the registration saying that INEC receives many applications and that it could be one of them.
The Deputy Chairman of Ali Modu Sherriff's faction has described the registration of the new party as fraudulent and advised the party and the general public not to associate in any way with the Advanced Peoples Democratic Party.
