The Nigeria Customs Service claimed that the bags of  rice that were recently seized from traders at Sango area of  Ogun State, were actually smuggled into the country.
Recall that rice is one of the items banned from being imported into  the country by the Federal Government except through the sea ports.

Custom officers had last week raided shops of rice traders around Sango area which led to a protest by the traders.
The public relations officer of the Federal Operations Unit A, Ikeja, Jerry Attah disclosed that the Nigeria customs has asked the aggrieved traders to bring forward documents showing that the bags of rice were cleared through the sea port.
"For the umpteenth time, I've said anyone who has documents to show that the seized items were cleared from the seaports should come around to clear his wares."
